On Wednesday we were pleased to host a session on coaching in prisons for Unlocked Graduate’s conference.
Our Head of Programmes, Dr. Karen Graham, and life coach Dorottya Szuk, talked to the graduates during an online session about how coaching can transform the culture in prisons, and the mindsets of those living and working there.
The attendees were engaged and interested to hear about how our new prison staff coaching programme could help them reflect, and develop personally and professionally.
Of the session, Karen said:
“It was great to share the value of life coaching in prisons with current and former unlocked graduates and other experienced prison staff. It was clear from the questions and responses in the session this was a new area for many, and their interest was very encouraging. It was also great to see how much the potential benefits of coaching both young people and staff resonated with the attendees.”
And Dorottya reflected:
“I was very pleased to see that attendees were equally as excited and positive about our mission as those who actually experienced it themselves. This made me reflect on the future and the extent to which we can support prisoners and officers, and I can’t wait for it.”
We began offering coaching to prison staff during the Covid-19 crisis, giving them time and space to focus on their own mindset. Not only is coaching prison staff beneficial to that individual, it can also transform their interactions with others, including the people living in the prisons.
