In 2017, Spark Inside was delighted to receive substantial grant funding from the Gandhi Statue Memorial Trust, allowing the charity to grow and increase our impact.
On the 70th anniversary of Gandhi’s assassination, the Trust hosted a ceremony at the Tara Theatre in London in tribute to his memory and to celebrate his life. We were honoured to be invited to give a speech about our coaching programmes.
Indy Cross, Head of Communications at Spark Inside, gave an impassioned speech about Hero’s Journey™, our life coaching programme, and the impact it’s having on young people in prison.
“These young people in prison all have a story. Let’s not forget that Gandhi himself was imprisoned for many years, upon many occasions, in both South Africa and India. We at Spark Inside believe that people have great potential to change. Particularly young people.”
Indy took the audience on the journey of Spark Inside and ended with a big ‘thank you’ to the Trust and to Lord Desai, whose generosity is making a huge difference.
“It was delightful and inspiring to learn about the activities of Spark Inside. I felt I was involved in a great and good enterprise. Thank you.”
- Meghnad Desai
The audience also heard from two other beneficiary charities – Second Chance and All One Collective – along with special dramatisations of some of Gandhi’s most moving speeches. Key note addresses were also made by the Indian high commissioner Yash Sinha and Meghnad Desai himself.
The funding from the Trust is going towards direct delivery of Hero’s Journey™, our structured life coaching programme for 15 – 25 year olds in prisons in London and the South-East; independent, external evaluations of our programmes, to enable us to prove our impact; and core funding for the Senior Management Team.
Thank you to the Gandhi Statue Memorial Trust and Lord Desai, as well as to Jatinder Verma and his team at Tara Theatre.
