Our Founder and CEO, social entrepreneur Baillie Aaron has had the honour of being on the judging panel for Prisoners’ Education Trust’s (PET) Enterprise Awards 2018. As well as founding Spark Inside, Baillie also founded the US non-profit Venturing Out, providing entrepreneurship education to people in prison. 

PET’s Enterprise Awards are one-off grants to help people in prison or just released to start a business, or find work after their release. PET fund specific equipment, training, tools or materials that are needed to set up for work, such as laptops, barbers’ tools or catering equipment. 

The winners were invited to collect their awards at an event in London, on Tuesday 4 September, where Baillie greeted them in person.

Baillie (pictured with fellow judge His Honour John Samuels QC said):

We know that for people leaving prison, participation in employment and education strongly increases the likelihood of moving away from crime; yet, for many, these opportunities are financially inaccessible.

It was an honour to be involved in the judging panel for PET's enterprise awards and to support people in prison with the ambition to pursue specific goals to have the funding to do so. I hope that going forwards, we can increase the amount of funding available to ensure that more individuals in our prisons can reach their potential.
