Over-representationofblackmeninprison
We know that young black men in prison are over-represented in the prison system (The Lammy Review, 2017). Inspired by Switchback’s twitter thread sharing some stark facts, we would like to highlight some of those articles that reveal more about the problem:
BAME people fined more than white population under coronavirus laws
Young black people nine times more likely to be jailed than young white people – report
Black and Muslim prisoners suffer worse treatment, study finds
At Spark Inside, we have adapted our Hero’s Journey™ life coaching programme, to address the specific experiences of young black men in the prison system. Two of our specially-trained professional life coaches have been working with young black men aged 16 – 25 as we piloted the programme, which you can find out more about here. This initiative will be resumed as soon as we can gain access back into prisons, which has been paused during the Covid-19 crisis.
